Our Story

Historically, my husband and I and our four kids have camped in the Koocansua area for several years and fell in love with the Lake, its surroundings and its amenities.

Barry and I learnt about Koocanusa Village through a friend who was house-boating on the Lake in late August. This friend knew how much we enjoyed the Lake, the development’s exclusivity, and the proximity to Fernie and its niceties. We took a leap of faith and put an offer in on the bare lot site unseen. When we finally found a weekend from our chaotic family schedule, we left the kids with family and out on our newest adventure we went. Coming down the hill into Koocanusa Village was the moment I knew we had made the right choice. Surrounded by wildlife, forest, beautiful turquoise water and a view of the mountains that looked like a magazine, I knew our life would get a lot more British Columbia!

What you see today is an accumulation of dreams, drawings, trial and error, sweat and sometimes tears, but we finally have our vision, a lakefront home to share. We wanted to build this home as a ‘watering hole’ – pun intended, for others to enjoy what the area brings and its escape. We could only wish that when our guests leave, they do so with an entire camera reel, smiling faces and memories to last a lifetime.

Meet the Owners

Hello, I am Katelyn; my Husband is Barry; together, we have four great kids with whom we get to share life. We are a family that genuinely loves the outdoors; in the winter, you can find us chasing our kids down the local ski hill, building a snowman in the yard or trudging through the snow on our next wildlife adventure.

In the summer, some might know us by name at the marina gas pump after taking the kids on their 14th tube ride of the day or trying to fish despite laughing too hard at my pitiful jokes and scaring all the fish away – I’ve been told that is a ‘reel’ thing, or we are just bad fishermen? – I’m banking on the latter of the two options.

I guess what I am trying to share with you is that we love to be outside and share that with others. I hope our home will be a symbol, a reminder, and a cause of some of your and my family’s most incredible memories.
